Business Leadership SA dancing with joy at the sacking of Transnet board

It’s vital that Transnet’s leadership, particularly the board, must be composed of people with “unimpeachable integrity”.

So said Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) in a statement on Wednesday.

BLSA applauded the sacking of the former Transnet board, and implored Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan to be "imaginative and brave" when he concludes the appointment of a new board.

Gordhan on Tuesday appointed ANC veteran Popo Molefe as interim Transnet Chairperson, and five interim board members.

We understand that the Minister could not leave Transnet without a board after sacking the old board hence the need for an interim board. We urge him to bring in a strong board with a diverse range of skills (in finance, engineering, good governance, legal and management of major capital projects), integrity and commitment to working towards inclusive growth and transformation.
